Travel with the Mookies on a Melbourne tram

June 10, 2021

ECLC is proud to see Aunty Zeta Thomson (Wurundjeri/Yorta Yorta) – a local Elder, artist, cultural teacher and advocate – showcasing her traditional artwork, Mookies Around the Water Hole, on the first of four Melbourne artwork trams that hit the tracks on 21 May 2021. Mookie means ‘spirit’ in Yorta Yorta.

This year’s artwork trams are designed by First Nations’ artists. Aunty Zeta’s work was chosen out of 60 applications.

You can travel with the Mookies on Melbourne tram routes 5, 6, 16, 58 and 72 until 21 May 2022.

The initiative was featured on National Indigenous Television (NITV).

Aunty Zeta and her husband Eddie Thomson pictured above are both well-known friends of ECLC with Aunty Zeta leading Welcomes to Country at many ECLC events.
