Legal and family violence services united against proposed Family Court merger
Like many family violence advocates and legal services, ECLC is extremely concerned about the proposed merger of the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court which could increase the risk of much worse outcomes for women and children – including family violence.
ECLC CEO Michael Smith said the government needs to focus on improving responses to family violence and there is no evidence that the merger of a specialist, stand-alone Family Court with a generalist court will help address this issue.
“The unity we are seeing on this issue across the legal profession in particular shows the high level of concern,” said Michael.
ECLC encourages community members to contact Federal MPs and Senators to express their concern.
Please stand with us and vote against increasing the risk of exacerbating family violence.
