Elder Abuse on the agenda at the UN
Rising community concern on Elder Abuse is now sadly a global phenomenon and discussed widely at the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing from July 5 in New York.
Age Discrimination Commissioner Dr Kay Patterson spoke passionately about concern and action on elder abuse in Australia, specifically highlighting key initiatives including the work of ECLC and the Eastern Elder Abuse Network. Dr Patterson’s speech can be viewed here.
Bill Mitchell from Townsville CLC also spoke as the NACLC representative on behalf of community legal centres in Australia (2:00.46 in video).
