Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) seeks to provide sensitive, high quality, accurate, confidential and individually tailored legal advice and on-going assistance. The Centre uses the resources of staff members and volunteers to provide the best possible services.
The services of the Centre are generally available to residents of the following municipalities and to others if a conflict of interest prevents another community legal centre from assisting them.
- Boroondara, Manningham & Whitehorse – Inner East office
- Knox, Maroondah & Yarra Ranges – Outer East office
Issues that ECLC may assist you with…
General advice may be given regarding the following issues:
- Family Law
- Divorce
- Family Violence matters (IVO)
- Criminal Law (summary or simple matters only)
- PERIN matters/Traffic
- Simple Wills
- Estate/Probate Matters
- Crimes Compensation (Victims of Crime)
- Motor Vehicle Accidents – property damage
- Neighbourhood Disputes
- Witnessing of Statutory Declarations & receiving Affidavits
- Children’s Court (only if a conflict with Victoria Legal Aid)
- Social Security (limited)
- Discrimination (not work related)
* Case work may be undertaken in any of the above matters in compliance with ECLC policy and guidelines

For a range of legal and practical reasons, no advice or casework is offered in the following
areas:
- Buying, Selling or Building Contracts
- Business related law
- Lawyer complaints
- Bankruptcy – contact a Financial Counsellor
- Taxation
- Employment issues
- WorkCover & Personal Injury
- Defamation
- Complex Wills
ECLC can assist clients with many areas of the law. However, there are some areas that ECLC cannot offer advice on, due to the specialist advice that is requires, the resources it takes to run the case or because we do not have the expertise.
If ECLC cannot assist, we are happy to give people a referral to an appropriate service. If in doubt, please contact us.
